The newly released Pearson Efficacy Report details the scientific rigor and validation process that went into creating this assessment. Learn how and why the Watson-Glaser III is fair, valid and reliable, and why it is the gold-standard critical thinking assessment on the market.
The Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal is a verbal ability test measuring critical thinking ability. It is considered to be the industry standard measure of critical thinking ability. It assesses an individual’s ability to analyse, interpret, and draw logical conclusions from written information.
In this efficacy report, we look at the evidence informing the design as well as the reliability, validity, and fairness of the Watson-Glaser III. In addition, the way an assessment is implemented has as much influence on its efficacy as its design, so profiles of implementation of existing users are included.
Highlights:
- Reliability: Scores are internally consistent, and are consistent both over time and across different forms of the assessment
- Fairness: There is evidence that the Watson-Glaser does not favour or disadvantage any particular group. That the Watson-Glaser can be provided in different modes, to suit different administrator and test-takers needs, without influencing the results.
- Validity: The RED model supports the intended purpose of use. Positive correlations suggest test-takers who perform well on the Watson-Glaser are also likely to perform well at work. The Watson-Glaser is a very beneficial predictor of likely course success at higher education level.
